EU warns Washington about the consequences of trade tensions

Olaf Scholz, the German Chancellor from the Social Democratic Party, on Monday, February 3rd, warned US President Donald Trump upon arriving at the informal summit of EU member state leaders in Brussels, that if tariffs are imposed on European products, the EU will also take reciprocal actions.

Scholz said the prerequisite for any understanding is awareness of one’s own power; Europe can take action.

Olaf Scholz added that it is clear that as a strong economic region, we can shape our own policies and respond to tariff policies with tariff policies.

Despite emphasizing that the primary goal is to reach an understanding with Trump, Scholz said that if necessary, we will take this action, and we must do so, an action which he said would also be harmful to the United States.
