European countries considered a coordinated response to the U.S. fuel request
Politico reported that five European countries and the European Commission have agreed to adopt a common stance in response to the Trump administration’s request to release fuel reserves.
Representatives from France, Germany, the UK, Italy, and Ireland held an emergency meeting on Thursday to discuss Washington’s request and the potential ban on U.S. diesel exports to Europe.
According to three European officials, the U.S. government has privately asked these countries to release part of their oil reserves.
The European parties agreed that any decision on releasing fuel reserves should be made within the framework of the International Energy Agency, while also preventing an escalation of tensions with Washington.
