Propagandistic Use of Prisoner Pardon
The Islamic Republic government has launched extensive propaganda about the pardon of prisoners, and some lawyers have described it as a replacement of the positions of the complainant and the accused.
Judicial authorities have not released any statistics so far on the number of political prisoners and those detained after September 26. However, human rights organizations, including HRANA, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, have reported that the number of detainees from September 26 to Friday, February 9, is 19,763 people.
According to this report, 528 people have lost their lives in protests that have lasted 148 days, 71 children have been killed, and four people have been executed.
