Farhat Popalzai, a women’s rights activist, was arrested in Kabul.

A source confirmed to the BBC that Farhat Popalzai, a women’s rights activist in Kabul, has been detained by the Taliban. Ms. Popalzai, who is 23 years old, was one of the first women to protest after the Taliban took power in Afghanistan last year.

Last Thursday, the Taliban arrested Zarifa Yaqubi, another women’s rights activist in Kabul, along with her four male colleagues in western Kabul. Despite widespread international concern, there is still no information about her and her colleagues’ fate. Taliban spokesmen have also not commented on Ms. Popalzai’s arrest yet.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman for the Taliban government, said a few days ago in response to a question about the arrest of female protesters that unauthorized protests are not allowed and added that they receive orders from outside and are told to protest to create distrust.
