Fereydoun Abbasi: It is better to gradually make energy carrier prices realistic

Fereydoun Abbasi, a member of the Energy Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, stated in an interview with Mostaghel Online

We must prepare ourselves to import gasoline when necessary, but if we want to import gasoline, we must pay its global price in the open markets. When this gasoline is imported, the government has to subsidize it so that it reaches the people at domestic prices. Therefore, it is better to gradually make energy carrier prices realistic. However, this action should be carried out in a way that allows society to adjust itself and does not suddenly shock people’s lives economically.
