Fereydoun Jeyrani: Bitter deaths and executions will transform cinema
Fereydoun Jeyrani addressing Alireza Raisian: Dear Raisian, I don’t think the future of Iranian cinema can continue with the same atmosphere as before these protests.
Certainly, the street violence, the bitter deaths, the distressing executions, and the demands of this restless generation that came to the streets—these very young girls and boys of the 80s generation—will impact Iranian cinema and transform it.
Alireza, my dear, I even think that Iranian cinema will face a crisis before this future.
Especially after the arrest of prominent directors and actors, after the pressure on the intellectual segment of cinema—the segment that protested against the violence, whose protest was not to disturb the public mind.
If the intellectual segment of cinema cannot work, Iranian cinema will face a crisis of thought. If the popular cinema segment is forced to accept maximum oversight, Iranian cinema will face an audience crisis.
