Former Iranian Ambassador in Kabul: The Taliban is fundamentally unfamiliar with the element of responsibility
Reza Bahrami, the former Iranian ambassador in Kabul, following a joint meeting known as the Helmand Water Commissioners, described talks with the Taliban government delegation as fruitless and wrote on his X page that the manner of interaction by the Taliban in the recent Helmand Water Commissioners meeting showed they have no intention to fulfill commitments and official agreements, and are fundamentally unfamiliar with the element of responsibility.
The twenty-seventh meeting of the Helmand Water Commissioners was held from February 14 to 15 in the city of Zabol, Iran, with the presence of Taliban representatives and officials from Iran.
According to some news agencies, Iranian representatives at this meeting demanded the removal of obstacles to the payment of this country’s water rights and the cessation of dam construction along the Helmand River.
However, the Taliban have stated that due to recent droughts, many areas of Afghanistan, including the Helmand River, do not have sufficient water.
The Helmand Water Sharing Treaty was concluded in 1972 between official representatives of the governments of Afghanistan and Iran at that time.
