The former Minister of Communications believes that lifting the filtering will not be resolved with the current members of the Supreme Council of Cyberspace.

Ahmad Motamedi, the former Minister of Communications and Information Technology, expressed in his assessment of the developments in cyberspace that unfortunately, there are people in charge who do not allow progress to be made. As long as the members of the Supreme Council of Cyberspace do not change, the situation will remain the same. He continued, I have said many times and I will say again that filtering and the widespread use of VPNs are against the country’s security. On the other hand, satellite internet is also against security, so it is clear and obvious that dissatisfaction arises, and on the other hand, nothing can be done. The former Minister of Communications and Information Technology emphasized that the heads of the branches, who represent the three branches of government, believe that filtering should at least be lifted for some sites, but they do not have the power over the members of the Supreme Council of Cyberspace. Therefore, the members of this council need to be changed.

Motamedi further reminded that VPNs should be removed, and at least some sites should be unblocked, and in this way, 90% of VPNs would be set aside, and the situation would improve because this situation is detrimental to the country from all aspects.

In conclusion, he said they have turned a simple issue into a social issue, and young people have to use VPNs and pay for them to access certain sites and platforms. This cost goes into the pockets of VPN sellers and internal brokers.
