The former Scottish minister’s spouse has been arrested
Peter Murrell, the husband of Nicola Sturgeon, the former First Minister of Scotland, has been arrested in connection with irregularities in the Scottish National Party’s financing.
Last month, Ms. Sturgeon suddenly resigned from her position as the First Minister of Scotland’s local government in the UK after more than eight years, and Humza Yousaf, the son of a Pakistani immigrant, was chosen as the party leader and First Minister.
Mr. Murrell was the party’s chief executive but stepped down from this position in February.
The Scottish National Party, which pursues the goal of independence for this part of the UK, has faced questions about its funding sources several times in recent years.
In recent years, the treasurer and three members of the party’s finance committee have resigned from their positions.
Images published in the media show police officers removing documents from the party’s headquarters. The details of Peter Murrell’s charges have not yet been announced.
