French Police Foil Plot to Attack One of the Olympic Games Host Stadiums

The French police thwarted a plan to attack one of the stadiums hosting the Olympic Games.

The French Ministry of the Interior announced on Friday, May 31 (11th of Khordad), that an 18-year-old Chechen youth was arrested for preparing an attack with Islamist motives on the Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium in Saint-Étienne.

It has been said that this action was the first thwarted assassination attempt against the Olympic Games.

According to the statement from the French Ministry of the Interior, this man intended to attack spectators and police officers and to die as a martyr.

According to reports, this individual was arrested on May 22 (2nd of Khordad).

The Paris Summer Olympics will be held from July 26 to August 11.
