Full Membership of Indonesia in BRICS

The government of Brazil, currently presiding over the BRICS group, announced that Indonesia has joined as a full member. Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates also became members of BRICS last year.

BRICS, which includes emerging economies like Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is recognized as a counterweight to the Group of Seven (G7) composed of seven advanced industrialized countries.

Iran joined BRICS with the support of Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, in the summer of 1402. During the presidency of Ibrahim Reisi, the former President of Iran.

At that time, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the National Assembly, considered the use of alternative currencies for trade among BRICS members as an important step for the group, which will help alleviate one of the main pressures from the US on emerging economies.

Turkey applied for BRICS membership last summer but was unsuccessful.
