German Foreign Minister Criticizes Uncertainty Over Iran-US Agreement

The German Foreign Minister criticized the ambiguity surrounding the Iran-U.S. agreement.

Johann Wadephul, the German Foreign Minister, criticized the lack of transparency regarding the agreement between Iran and the U.S., stating that Berlin does not want to be informed of the contents of this agreement only through statements and media reports.

According to Reuters, he stated at the German-Polish Forum in Berlin, ‘I want to know what the content of this agreement is.’

Wadephul also commented on the possibility of Germany participating in securing the Strait of Hormuz, saying that the necessary conditions for such a mission have not yet been established.

He added that Germany needs to know whether it is feasible to carry out such a mission in that maritime region, and this issue also requires the consent of neighboring countries.

The German Foreign Minister emphasized that before drafting any framework or official authorization for participation in such a mission, more information and transparency about the contents of the agreement are needed.

His statements come as Donald Trump said two days ago that he does not need extensive help from other countries to secure the Strait of Hormuz, although he acknowledged that the presence of several ships from various countries could be beneficial.

In a conversation with Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, Trump had said it might not be a bad idea for one or two ships from several countries around the world to be present in maintaining the security of the Strait of Hormuz.
