Germany asked its citizens to leave Iran

The German government extended the travel ban for its citizens to Iran and requested Germans residing in Iran to leave the country.

The spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry warned on Friday, November 11, that German citizens in Iran are at risk of being taken hostage by the Islamic Republic.

This spokesperson stated that the German government suspects that following the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd, a German-Iranian citizen residing in the United States, the Islamic Republic might take German citizens in the country hostage, and added that Germany wants to prevent its other citizens in Iran from facing a similar fate.

Following the execution of Jamshid Sharmahd on November 7 by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic, the German government closed all three Iranian consulates in the country.

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic considered the German Foreign Ministry’s order to close Iranian consulates in Germany as a sanction against Iranians.
