A gold medal behind the university classroom desk
The NCAA, the large organization of university champions in America, short for the National Collegiate Athletic Association, dominated a solitary Olympics in Paris and multiple American athletes in these games reached the Olympic medal through the path of competitions and support of this organization to their national team.
Shirley Richardson, a gold medalist and American star, is one of the many examples, like Katie Ledecky, a young American swimmer who has remained memorable in the history of American Olympic competitions with consecutive medals. Just like her famous brother, she has reached the world of champions through this path.
University sports, competitions, and championship cups are not only important in the field of domestic competitions of the three main team sports leagues in America, namely American football, basketball, and baseball, which have elevated individual and team sports in America to the world stage. The volleyball team of this country is also another example.
But the story doesn’t end there. American collegiate sports not only competed with the American team in the Paris Olympics, but also has activities in Canada. Nonetheless, stars from different countries have elevated themselves to championship levels in American universities. Perhaps one of the most important examples that should be forever recorded in history is the French swimmer Leon Marchand, who overshadowed the magic of his medals over Michael Phelps. He excelled at the University of Arizona and reached championship level, winning in the Paris Olympics.
