The government is protecting Pompeo and Brian Hook due to threats of assassination by Iran.
According to the Associated Press, the U.S. State Department has placed former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and one of his senior aides under government protection due to concerns about threats from Iran.
Last week, the State Department sent letters to Congress stating that the threats against Pompeo and Brian Hook, special representative for Iran under Donald Trump, are still serious and credible.
The Deputy Secretary of State stated in the letter that it has been concluded that the specific threat against former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is ongoing. He also expressed the same concern in a separate letter regarding Mr. Hook.
The American publication, The Hill, reported that according to sources, Pompeo and former National Security Advisor John Bolton were targeted in an assassination plot by Iran last summer.
