In the meeting with Amirabdollahian, I proposed a set of practical actions to revive the joint statement.

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency arrived in Tehran to meet and discuss with the officials of the Islamic Republic regarding Iran’s nuclear programs. Rafael Grossi, leading a team from the agency, arrived in Iran on Monday, May 7th. A few hours later, after meeting with officials from Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he announced that he had presented a proposal for practical actions to revive the 2023 joint statement. He wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that after meeting with Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and Deputy Minister Ali Bagheri Kani, he made this proposal with the aim of restoring the trust-building process and increasing transparency. Mr. Grossi had warned before the trip that Iran had increased its enriched uranium levels, which could potentially be used in weapon construction.
