Grossi said talks with Iran have made progress

Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said in his press conference at the end of the first session of the Board of Governors that the agency has not transferred any of Iran’s documents to another country.

A few hours earlier, Mr. Baghai stated in his press conference that in May 2025, two confidential documents accessible to the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency were transferred to Vienna.

Rafael Grossi, in response to another question from Behrang Tajdin about what actions the agency will take to avoid an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, said the agency is seeking a diplomatic resolution to the crises in Iran’s nuclear program.

He emphasized that new negotiations with Iran have had successes and if the negotiations between Iran and the agency progress, the likelihood of resorting to military action will decrease.

Although today Mr. Grossi, referring to criticisms of the agency’s performance during the Israel-Iran war, said emotions arise during conflicts and the agency will not engage in verbal disputes, the core work of the International Atomic Energy Agency should not be questioned.

Mr. Grossi also said this morning, September 8, at the start of the Board of Governors meeting, that talks to resume full inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities have made progress but warned that time is running out.

He expressed hope on Monday, September 8, at the start of the 35-nation Board of Governors meeting, that these negotiations will reach a conclusion in the next few days.
