Guterres says diplomacy is designed for days like today
Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, warned about the escalation of conflicts in West Asia and once again called for a halt to the violence, emphasizing that diplomacy is the only way forward.
Guterres, in a Security Council meeting on the peaceful resolution of disputes, said that negotiation is not designed for times of consensus, but rather for when reaching consensus seems difficult, gaps have deepened, solutions are limited, and violence is flaring up. In other words, it is designed for today.
The UN Secretary-General, referring to the increase in the number and duration of conflicts around the world, emphasized that this trend must be stopped and called on all countries to use the tools provided in the UN Charter, including negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and other peaceful methods to resolve disputes.
