The head of the fruit vendors’ union says farmers inject industrial dye into citrus fruits
Akbar Yavari, the head of the fruit vendors’ union, says farmers inject industrial dye into citrus fruits to color them, and eating oranges and tangerines from northern Iran is like poison for people.
According to this union official, the health department and the Ministry of Agriculture have no oversight over this process.
Yavari says that due to this practice, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan have banned the import of citrus fruits from Iran and are importing products from Egypt and African countries instead.
