A Heavy Defeat for Esteghlal Against Zob Ahan
In the eighth week of the Premier League, Esteghlal Tehran was defeated 3-0 by Zob Ahan Isfahan at the Shahr-e Qods Stadium.
Esteghlal’s Friday night loss is the heaviest home defeat for the team in the last 10 years of the league. In May 2015, under the coaching of Amir Ghalenoei, Esteghlal had lost 4-1 to Tractor Sazi Tabriz.
The spectators present at the stadium chanted against Esteghlal’s managers from the first goal of Zob Ahan until the end of the match. They called Sardar Ahmad Shahriari, the chairman of the board, and Farshid Samiei, the CEO, brokers and demanded their departure from Esteghlal.
Esteghlal, which is using Sohrab Bakhtiarizadeh as interim head coach after Javad Nekounam’s resignation, remained in eleventh place in the standings with this heavy home defeat.
The Blues have suffered their third loss from seven matches and have a negative goal difference of 3.
Hossein Hosseini, the captain of Esteghlal, watched the match from the stands with his young child. Shahriari, the chairman of the board, had prevented him from participating in the match.
