Tehran’s Esteghlal football team suffered a heavy 7-1 defeat against UAE’s Al Wasl in their first match in the AFC Champions League held in Dubai.
In this match, Lima scored twice, Jimenez Malheiro Junior scored twice, and Buftini scored for Al Wasl, while Rouzbeh Cheshmi scored the only goal for Esteghlal.
This result is not only the heaviest defeat in Esteghlal club’s history but also the worst loss for an Iranian team in the history of the AFC Champions League.
This comes despite Esteghlal having signed players like Moussa Djenepo, Adnan Munir El Haddadi, and Asani during the transfer season, entering the competition with the goal of advancing from the group stage and returning to their great Asian days.
