Iman Shamsaei: No one in Tehran has been arrested for media activities.

Iman Shamsaei, the Director General of Press and Domestic News Agencies in Iran, has stated that so far eight detained journalists in the country have been released.

Mr. Shamsaei has said that regarding the detainees, law enforcement and security agencies acknowledge that the charges against these individuals were not for covering recent events for their media, and even no one in Tehran has been arrested for media activities.

Since the start of nationwide protests in Iran, a large number of journalists and media activists have been arrested.

In a joint statement, the Ministry of Intelligence and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have described Iranian journalists who published reports about the death of Mahsa Amini and her funeral as being affiliated with and trained by intelligence services.

This statement claimed that the protests are a conspiracy of foreign services.

Following the release of this statement, more than 300 journalists, in support of the detained journalists including Niloufar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi, have called for their release.
