The Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization: 6,000 seafarers are still trapped in the Strait of Hormuz
Arsenio Dominguez, the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, announced that around 6,000 seafarers on at least 400 oil tankers and cargo ships remain trapped in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf region. These figures have also been confirmed in reports related to this United Nations body.
Dominguez, referring to the six months since the start of the war, said the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains unresolved, and thousands of seafarers continue to work and live in conditions fraught with danger and uncertainty.
According to the International Maritime Organization, at least 70 attacks on international ships have been confirmed since the start of the conflicts, and 19 seafarers have lost their lives. This organization has called for practical solutions and the resumption of cooperation to ensure the freedom of navigation.
