Increase in the price of some medicines up to four times in Iran
The renewed increase in the price of some medicines up to four times has further worried Iranian citizens. Insurers also speak of their inability to cover the rising costs, which ultimately means more empty pockets for citizens in dire economic conditions and their continuous impoverishment.
On Wednesday, January 30, Tasnim News Agency reported that the price increase for some domestically produced medicines ranges from 15 percent to more than 150 percent. According to this news agency, in some cases, this price increase has reached nearly four times, and insurers say they do not have sufficient resources to cover the rising costs.
According to ISNA, Iran’s Minister of Health, Mohammad Reza Zafarghandi, stated that the reason for the increase in the price of some injectable drugs and ointments is that production in pharmaceutical factories is not economically viable. He mentioned that the government agreed to the price increase to prevent shortages in the market because these factories had lost their production capability due to rising production costs.
