Iran's Minister of Communications Attempted 20 Times to Sabotage the Fiber Optic Network in the First Round of Elections

In the first round of the 2020 elections, the Iranian Minister of Communications made 20 attempts to sabotage the fiber optic network.

Eisa Zar’epour, the Minister of Communications in Iran, has stated that during the first round of the presidential elections held last week, more than 20 attacks on the fiber optic lines of the country were carried out, with 9 of them resulting in fiber cuts.

Mr. Zar’epour stated that the ministry monitored the fiber optic lines in collaboration with the armed forces during the election week.

The Iranian Minister of Communications said that during this collaboration, they were able to quickly identify the locations where sabotage drilling had taken place.

Reports of internet disruptions during the first round of the presidential election voting were published, but government officials denied the intentional nature of these outages.
