Iran has once again repeated the claim of a prisoner exchange with the United States.
Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, reiterated Iran’s claim of engaging in talks for a prisoner exchange with the United States.
This is while the United States has denied this claim, stating that there are no ongoing discussions with Iran on this issue.
Mr. Kanaani, in his weekly conference, said that talks regarding the prisoner exchange and other related matters with the U.S. government are ongoing through intermediaries.
Ned Price, the spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, told BBC Persian yesterday that the statements by Iranian officials about an agreement on a prisoner exchange are a highly cruel lie that only increases the pain and suffering of the prisoners’ families.
Following this, the Iranian Foreign Ministry responded, stating that an official U.S. representative signed this agreement through an intermediary last year but has not implemented it for various reasons.
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s Foreign Minister, said on Sunday that a recent agreement has been reached on the existing prisoner exchange between Iran and the United States.
