Bessent: Iran wants to compensate for its economic defeat with military attacks
Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, claimed at the G20 meeting that Iran has failed economically and is trying to compensate for this situation with military attacks.
Bessent also thanked the European Union for what he called their broad support of the U.S. economic isolation campaign against Iran, and said Iranian officials are taking U.S. sanctions seriously.
He emphasized that Washington’s goal is not the collapse of Iran’s economy but rather a change in Tehran’s approach, and that the U.S. will continue to apply economic pressure.
