The Iranian women’s national basketball team advanced to the Asia semifinals

The Iranian women’s national basketball team, by securing three consecutive victories in the 2025 Asia Cup Division B competitions against the Cook Islands, Thailand, and Mongolia, advanced to the semifinals as the leader of Group B.

In the final group stage match, Iran defeated Mongolia with a score of 80 to 62 to become the leader of their group and reach the semifinals.

Previously, Iran’s national players had taken the first two steps firmly with a 70 to 51 victory over Thailand and an 85 to 45 win against the Cook Islands.

Iran’s main lineup in the match against Mongolia included Mahla Abedi, Farnaz Khodamoradi, Aida Golmohammadi, Negin Rasoulipour, and Roxana Barahman.

Mahla Abedi, with a double-double of 16 points and 16 rebounds, was named the most outstanding player on the court.

On Friday, July 27, the Iranian team will compete in Shenzhen, China, aiming to reach the final and advance to Division A.

India’s national team is Iran’s potential opponent, having a close competition for the top spot in the other group.

If Iran wins, they will advance to the final and will be just one more victory away from moving up to Division A.
