Iranian Documentary Filmmakers Shine at IDFA
Last night, Iranian documentary filmmakers won two of the most prestigious awards at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).
At this festival, which is considered the largest and most important documentary and non-fiction film festival in the world, Mehrdad Oskouei won the award for Best Film in the International Competition section with his film ‘The Fox and the Pink Fish’. The film ‘The Past is a Continuous Future’ by Firouzeh Khosrovani and Morteza Ahmadvand also received the award for Best Film in the Envision Competition section.
Both films were awarded a cash prize worth 15,000 euros.
The film ‘The Fox and the Pink Fish’ portrays the story of Soraya, a 16-year-old Afghan teenager living in Iran, and her five-year struggle as an artist, painter, and sculptor to migrate to Europe, using self-filming techniques with a mobile phone and a combination of documentary and animation.
In their statement for awarding the Best Film in the International Competition to ‘The Fox and the Pink Fish’, the festival jury said this film opens a window to the power of art and hope in the difficult times we live in.
