Iranian President’s Assistant: Oppression of Women is a Key Feature of Tyrannical Regimes

1 Min Read

The assistant to the head of the Iranian government states that oppressing women is a fundamental characteristic of tyrannical regimes.

Sakineh Sadatpad, the assistant to the head of the government, wrote in a letter responding to Hossein Shariatmadari, the editor-in-chief of Kayhan newspaper, that the legislator has mentioned the important issue of women in the preamble of the constitution, considering the oppression of women as a fundamental characteristic of tyrannical regimes and an action aimed at their exploitation.

She added that this was mentioned by the constitutional legislator because Marxist and non-revolutionary groups had accused the true revolutionary forces of being anti-women and religiously reactionary.

Sadatpad explained that Article 21 obliges the Islamic Republic’s government to comprehensively respect women’s rights and create favorable conditions for the growth of women’s material and spiritual personality, and one of the missions assigned to me as an attorney is to pursue the implementation of parts of this very constitution.

Ms. Sadatpad had stated a few days earlier that the prohibition of social services for unveiled women was contrary to Articles 19 and 20 of the Iranian Constitution, against justice, and a clear example of arbitrary action.
