Gianni Infantino, the president of the International Football Federation, emphasized that the Iranian national football team will participate in the 2026 World Cup and will hold matches in the United States
He said on Thursday at the FIFA Congress meeting in Vancouver that Iran will be present in the World Cup and will play in the United States, adding that this decision was made to create unity
These statements come as the Iranian Football Federation delegation was unable to attend the meeting due to what Tehran described as unacceptable behavior by Canadian immigration officials
Meanwhile, given the joint hosting of the 2026 World Cup by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the issue of visa issuance and related restrictions on some Iranian entities has become one of the challenges of this competition
FIFA had previously rejected Iran’s request to hold its matches outside of U.S. soil
