The Statistical Center reported that Iran’s point-to-point inflation reached 60 percent.
Iranian media reported on Sunday, January 25, quoting the Statistical Center, that the point-to-point inflation rate in December reached 60 percent, an unprecedented figure that shows a 7.4 percentage point increase compared to the previous month.
According to this report, the point-to-point inflation for the food and beverage group was recorded at 89.9 percent last month. The media attributed part of this sharp increase to the effect of removing the preferential exchange rate, an action whose widespread inflationary effects were previously denied by the officials of Masoud Pezeshkian’s government.
The Statistical Center also announced that the monthly inflation rate in December was 7.9 percent. Accordingly, the monthly inflation for the food, beverage, and tobacco group was reported at 13.7 percent, and the monthly inflation for the non-food goods and services group was 4.4 percent.
In this report, the annual inflation rate was also announced at 44.6 percent, which has increased by 2.4 percentage points compared to November.
