The Association of Iranian Transport Institutions ordered India to withdraw from Chabahar’s Beheshti Port
Masoud Daneshmand, a board member of the Association of Iranian Transport Institutions, announced the possibility of India’s withdrawal from the Beheshti Port project in Chabahar and said that the United States has warned the Indians to leave this port, and it is clear that New Delhi will comply with Washington in this matter.
According to ILNA, Masoud Daneshmand, pointing to India’s decade-long delay in fulfilling its commitments, said that India has repeatedly promised to invest in the development of Chabahar Port but has taken no practical action.
New Delhi, due to its economic dependence on the United States and the European Union, cannot resist Washington’s sanction pressures.
He also identified structural issues of the port as other factors for the project’s failure and added that in the absence of rail and road infrastructure, the port’s capacity is not fully utilized; out of the official 10 million tons capacity, only about two million tons are active.
Chabahar Port, as the only oceanic port of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has been the focus of cooperation between Tehran and New Delhi since 2016, but U.S. sanctions have halted this strategic plan.
