Ismail Baghaei and Oman discussed traffic management in the Strait of Hormuz

Ismail Baghaei, the spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that yesterday’s talks between Abbas Araghchi and Omani officials in Muscat focused on the coordination between the two coastal countries of the Strait of Hormuz regarding the passage and navigation in this waterway.

Baghaei, referring to the presence of legal and technical delegations from both countries in these talks, said that ensuring the security and safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz while respecting the sovereign rights of the two coastal countries, international law, and considering the provisions of paragraph 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was discussed and exchanged views upon.

He also stated that Iran has emphasized the position that the development of new arrangements for managing traffic in the Strait of Hormuz should be within the framework of consultations between the two coastal countries and considering the developments of recent months, especially the war and its security consequences for navigation in this waterway.
