Israeli army spokesperson: 242 people have been taken hostage in Gaza

Daniel Hagari, the spokesperson for the Israeli army, has stated that the army has contacted the families of 242 people who have been taken hostage in Gaza.

The last reported number of hostages was 239.

Hamas has said that the hostages are hidden throughout Gaza, including in tunnels.

Hamas announced last week that at least 50 hostages have been killed in Israeli airstrikes, a figure that cannot be confirmed.

Yesterday, the group also stated that 7 hostages were killed in an airstrike on the Jabalia refugee camp.
