Italian Prime Minister’s Trip to Lebanon

Giorgia Meloni, the Prime Minister of Italy, according to her office, departed for an official trip to Lebanon on Friday.

This is the first visit by a head of government or state to Lebanon following the escalation of conflicts between Israel and Lebanese militants in recent weeks.

Ms. Meloni has also traveled to Beirut amid tensions concerning United Nations peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, where her country has soldiers in this international force.

The right-wing Italian Prime Minister was welcomed at Beirut International Airport by her Lebanese counterpart, Najib Mikati.
