Joe Biden has said that the war in Gaza must end and a ceasefire must be established.
In a phone call, US President Joe Biden explicitly told Benjamin Netanyahu that the war in Gaza must end and a ceasefire must be established.
These two leaders, whose relationship has soured in recent months, spoke on August 1st following the killing of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. While Biden has committed to supporting Israel against renewed threats from Iran and paramilitaries, according to informed sources, he clearly asked Netanyahu to accept a ceasefire agreement as soon as possible in this phone call.
In this conversation with Netanyahu, Biden warned about the consequences of escalating tensions in a conflict that has been ongoing for almost 10 months. Biden told reporters that we have a ceasefire basis and everyone should take steps in this direction.
He also added that the killing of Ismail Haniyeh has not helped alleviate tensions.
