Josep Borrell: EU Cannot Declare IRGC as Terrorist in Current Conditions

Josep Borrell, the EU’s foreign policy chief, stated that in the current circumstances, the EU cannot declare the IRGC as a terrorist organization.

In an interview with Le Monde, Josep Borrell, the EU’s foreign policy chief, mentioned that they have repeatedly discussed adding the IRGC to the list of terrorist organizations. This is something that former US President Donald Trump did. However, the EU’s judicial authorities must determine if the IRGC has committed terrorist acts, which is not the case at the moment. Borrell, the EU’s foreign policy chief, stated that in the current circumstances, the EU cannot declare the IRGC as a terrorist organization. Regarding the new sanctions against Tehran, he mentioned that such actions first require identifiable sanctionable behavior. Borrell also emphasized that it is in everyone’s interest that the region does not witness further escalation due to potential Israeli responses to the attacks carried out by Iran with drones and missiles.
