Kazakhstan and Russia in the Grip of the Worst Flood in 80 Years
Parts of Kazakhstan and Russia are facing serious consequences from spring floods that are unprecedented in scale and impact in these two countries for over 80 years.
A state of emergency has been declared in 10 regions of Kazakhstan following severe flooding in the northwest of the country.
With the onset of spring and a sudden warming that has caused snow to melt, several regions in Kazakhstan and Russia are experiencing floods.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of Kazakhstan, described these floods as the worst natural disaster in the region in 80 years.
