Khatami in defense of understanding with America: Do not let this opportunity slip away

Mohammad Khatami, the former president of Iran, supported the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States and said that after the war, an extraordinary opportunity has been created for the country and the people, which can be seen in the Geneva agreement.

Khatami supported the decision of the Supreme National Security Council and military commanders to achieve this understanding and said that the courage and sacrifice of the honorable president should be appreciated.

Emphasizing that America is not trustworthy, he added that dealing with such situations should be based on prudence and diplomacy and said, ‘I hope this time the opportunity that has arisen will not be lost, as unfortunately it has been lost many times before, and if it is lost, the threats will become more severe.’

The head of the reformist government also said that in any understanding, concessions are both given and received and called for achieving an honorable peace.

In another part of his speech, Khatami emphasized the necessity of improving economic and living conditions and said that the living environment should be opened up for people who are facing economic difficulties and despair about the future.

He also warned about the increasing gap between society and the government and said that over the past years, the bloodline that has created a distance between the people and the government has become very pronounced.
