Larijani: Iran can build a nuclear bomb in two weeks but doesn’t want to

Mohammad Javad Larijani, the director of the Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences, on Sunday, November 1st, referred to the fatwa by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic regarding the prohibition of nuclear weapons use, stating that this fatwa has very strong jurisprudential foundations and has precedence in Shia jurisprudence history.

In remarks that received widespread attention in the media, he said, ‘We have introduced a new theory to the world: a country that can have a nuclear bomb in less than two weeks declares it does not want one.’

Larijani continued, ‘The Leader’s fatwa on the nuclear bomb is important because it reveals the thinking of the Ahl al-Bayt, a thought that shows our violence is not without limits.’
