The lawyer for Javad Rouhi says he did not burn the Quran, he only danced and threw a scarf into the fire.

Majid Kaveh, the lawyer for Javad Rouhi, one of the detained protesters in Nowshahr who has been sentenced to three executions, says that his case lacks evidence and his client only danced in Nowshahr Square and threw some scarves into the fire.

Mr. Kaveh told Shargh newspaper that the accusation of burning the Quran was attributed to him by the interrogators, but there is neither a witness nor any remains, and Mr. Rouhi has repeatedly denied it during the interrogations.

Javad Rouhi, a 35-year-old resident of Amol, was arrested during the protests on September 21 in Nowshahr. According to his chosen lawyers, he has been sentenced to three executions on charges of ‘corruption on earth’ through committing widespread crimes against security, ‘moharebeh’ meaning committing the crime of deliberate destruction and arson of places, insulting sanctities, and burning the Quran.
