The judiciary opposed the request for conditional release of imprisoned environmental activists

Hojjat Kermani, the lawyer for imprisoned environmental activists in Iran, announced the rejection of the conditional release request for Hooman Jokar, Sepideh Kashani, Taher Ghadirian, and Niloufar Bayani. He expressed hope that the judiciary would agree to their pardon or conditional release on the eve of Nowruz.

These four prisoners had previously protested the rejection of their conditional release request in a letter from prison.

Mr. Kermani, in an interview with the Shargh newspaper, said that Branch 36 of the Tehran Province Court of Appeals, without considering that more than three years have passed since the legal period of serving one-third of the sentence for these prisoners, which is the main legal basis for the possibility of conditional release, solely based on the type of crime committed and the fact that the demeanor and behavior of the convicts do not show that they will not commit a crime after release, has rejected the conditional release request of Mr. Hooman Jokar, Mr. Taher Ghadirian, and Ms. Niloufar Bayani.

Several imprisoned environmental activists, including Abdolreza Kouhpae, Sam Rajabi, Amirhossein Khaleghi, and Morad Tahbaz, have been released due to the end of their sentence, pardon, or prisoner exchange.
