I am following up on the reason for transferring my client to Evin Prison by lawyer Saeed Madani.
Mahmoud Behzad Irad, the lawyer of Saeed Madani, told ILNA reporter about the transfer of his client to Damavand Prison. He said that today I met with Mr. Madani and this morning the prison authorities told him that he might be transferred to another prison. Then they told me that it has been denied for now, but we found out that he has been transferred to Damavand Prison.
He added that the transfer of prisoners should be based on a deportation order from the place where the crime was committed or where they lived, or at the request of the prisoner to be transferred to the nearest place of residence. However, Mr. Madani did not request a transfer or have a deportation order, and we do not know with what permission they have been transferred to another prison.
He further said that even Mr. Madani himself was not aware of this issue when we met this morning. I will follow up tomorrow to see what the reason for the transfer was because it goes against the prison regulations.
Saeed Madani, a sociologist and political activist who was serving a 9-year sentence in Evin Prison, has been exiled to Damavand Prison today.
