The letter from Rouhani’s office to the head of IRIB: Some candidates have turned the debate into a session for accusing Rouhani’s government.

The office of the seventh president of Iran, in a letter to the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), requested the allocation of time to respond to the claims and accusations made by some candidates during the discussions and the first debate of the fourteenth presidential election against Hassan Rouhani and his government.

The full text of the letter is as follows: In the name of God, Mr. Dr. Peyman Jebelli, Honorable Head of the IRIB Organization.

Greetings, respectfully, it is hereby informed that the claims made in the first debate of the respected candidates of the fourteenth presidential election on the evening of June 18, 2024, and some other programs by some candidates regarding Dr. Hassan Rouhani and his government are clear examples of spreading falsehoods and slander against individuals and entities. According to the law, the election advertising commission must allocate a specific time for the absent party to defend themselves.

It is hoped that the IRIB, contrary to its previous practices, will provide this opportunity in accordance with the law to Dr. Rouhani or his representative to respond to the numerous doubts and accusations made by a few candidates who have turned the presidential candidates’ debate of the fourteenth election into a session for accusing the eleventh and twelfth governments, effectively ignoring the explicit recommendation of the leadership to observe electoral ethics.
