Life imprisonment for the Hollywood producer who sparked the Me Too movement

Harvey Weinstein, the former influential Hollywood figure, was sentenced by a Los Angeles judge to another 16 years in prison for sexual assault and other sex crimes, ensuring he will spend the remaining years of his life behind bars. This former producer and executive was found guilty in December 2013 of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault against a famous Italian model at the Mr. C Beverly Hills hotel in Los Angeles, and was ultimately sentenced to an additional 16 years in prison. He is currently serving a 23-year sentence issued by a New York court in March 2020. In total, he faces 39 years in prison, which is equivalent to life imprisonment for this 70-year-old producer. The scandal involving Harvey Weinstein, first exposed by The New Yorker, led to the start of the MeToo movement in Hollywood, which aims to raise awareness about the prevalence of sexual abuse of women in the film industry.
