Lithuanian Foreign Minister: There is a growing consensus to declare the IRGC as a terrorist organization

Gabrielius Landsbergis, the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, told the Axios news and analysis site that there is a growing consensus among European Union member states to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization due to its military support for Russia in the Ukraine war.

In a resolution this January, the European Parliament called on Iranian authorities to end human rights violations, the execution of protesters, and the suppression of dissenters. It also urged EU members to increase support for protesters in Iran and to include the IRGC in the EU’s list of terrorist organizations.

Josep Borrell, the EU’s foreign policy chief, has stated that the European Court of Justice must make a decision before such a measure can be adopted.
