Macron confirms the release of two French citizens in Iran

Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, has stated that two French citizens named Bernard Phelan and Benjamin Briere, who were imprisoned in Iran, have now been released.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced in a statement that these two are on their way to the country after their release.

Catherine Colonna, the French Foreign Minister, confirmed the news of the release of these two French citizens, stating that they were freed from a prison in Mashhad and are on their way to France.

Earlier today, news sources in Iran reported the release of Bernard Phelan, an Irish-French citizen who had been sentenced to six and a half years in prison in Iran.

Benjamin Briere, another French citizen, was arrested in Iran in 2020 and later sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of espionage.
