America 2024: Is it Kamala Harris’s turn?

Ms. Prosecutor seems to be leaning towards Trump’s account after Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the competition for the White House. It appears that Democrats have united around supporting Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States, as the front-runner nominee of this party in the presidential elections, and Trump seems vulnerable to defeat again.

US President Joe Biden believes that Kamala Harris is the best choice, and his decision to withdraw from the elections was the right one.

Biden said the name of the election nominee has changed, but I will campaign alongside Harris and will not disappear from the scene.

Hours after Joe Biden’s announcement of withdrawing from the competition for the White House, attention turned towards Vice President Kamala Harris.

My first decision as the party’s nominee in 2020 was choosing Kamala Harris as my deputy.

It was the best decision I made. Today, I want to present my full support for Kamala as our party’s nominee in the current year.

Democrats believe that the time for unity and victory has come.

But it’s not just because of the President’s support that Harris is considered the most likely candidate for vice presidency. According to the Financial Times, Biden’s decision was made after prominent party figures and supporters explicitly stated that they would support Harris.

Additionally, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Jeffrey Gensler, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will also reportedly endorse her in private.

It is also noteworthy that, according to the fundraising platform ActBlue, Harris raised over $467 million in just seven hours after launching her campaign, surpassing Biden’s one-day fundraising.

Operation Coconut Tree

Now, the challenge for the Vice Presidential candidate who seeks nomination is to introduce themselves to the American public.

In fact, it’s no secret that during the four years spent alongside Joe Biden, Harris didn’t have much chance to shine.

Initially, challenging cases such as migration and voting rights were entrusted to her, in which she showed some inexperience. However, in recent months, she has been reassessed due to her determination and competence in leading Democrats in tackling hot topics related to minority rights and abortion.

Kamala Harris, the daughter of a Jamaican father and an Indian mother, is the first black woman of South Asian descent to hold the position of Vice President and is likely to compete for the White House.

It is no coincidence that the code name chosen to protect her after being entrusted with the Secret Service is ‘Pioneer’.

With long experience as a prosecutor that honed her oratory skills, and as a senator from California, she is a moderate but with more progressive positions on ethical issues than Biden.

Since she was a young girl, she has tried to maintain civil rights activities and legal professions in the world of justice side by side, a difficult balance that has brought her a lot of criticism and even accusations of duplicity among Democrats.

However, Harris represents a bridge between older and generally more moderate party representatives and the newer, more progressive generation that focuses more on issues such as equality and social rights.

A strange quote from her mother was shared on social media a year and a half ago, stating that ‘you think you fell from a coconut tree, but you are a part of everything you live in and what came before you. You are part of a whole.’ This led to the spread of humorous jokes and memes on social media, to the extent that some now define her candidacy for the future presidential elections as the ‘coconut tree operation’.

Will it become a reality?

Another element that strengthens Harris’ candidacy is the fact that in the hours following Biden’s announcement, some of the party’s prominent members declared their support for him. The Vice President also received endorsements from the Black and Hispanic caucuses, two main coordinating groups present in Congress, which helps prevent any opposing candidate.

Expressions of support for her continued on Monday, although there were significant absences that may indicate a tendency towards a Democratic convention and initial struggle on the eve of the Chicago convention in mid-August.

Former President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who are two important and key members of the party, did not explicitly declare their support, according to reports from sources close to the party who played a key role in persuading Biden to withdraw from the competition.

Obama said in statements that in the coming days we will move into uncharted waters, but I am confident that our party leaders can create a process that will produce an exceptional candidate.

However, many analysts believe that the lack of support for Harris does not indicate a lack of trust in her, but rather reflects a desire to favor a transitional process that is as democratic and transparent as possible to protect her candidacy from potential attacks and mobilize Democratic voters.

Who is Harris’ deputy?

Less than 106 days remain until the November election, and considering the early voting in many states, it is very clear that Harris needs to quickly identify her competitor.

Among those who have declared their support for her, several figures have been considered as potential deputies for Harris. Among them, in addition to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, there are governors such as Roy Cooper from North Carolina, former Attorney General Josh Shapiro, former astronaut Mark Kelly, and former congresswoman Gabby Giffords, a survivor of a mass shooting in Arizona in 2011.

Also, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, a major supporter of Biden in the election battles, is currently serving his second term as governor. Or Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, who is serving his second term in a deeply Republican state, and Gretchen Whitmer, the popular governor of Michigan, a crucial swing state recognized as a rising star in the Democratic Party.

A swing state or battleground state is a state where neither of the two major parties and their candidates have strong support, so they rely on the votes of the Green Party’s assembly in that state.

These states receive intense focus in election campaigns during the United States presidential election because winning in these states leads to their victory in the overall election.

Whitmer is a governor of a state where the largest Arab community in America lives, and she may play a significant role in helping Harris regain some of the angry voters’ support over the Biden administration’s handling of the Gaza conflict.

If Whitmer is chosen and introduced as Harris’s running mate, it would be the first all-female ticket in history for the White House race.
