Mahmoud Mehrabi, a social media activist, has been sentenced to death.

His lawyer, Babak Farsani, announced this news on X on Sunday, May 6, and expressed hope that the serious flaws in the verdict would be considered by the Supreme Court.

Mahmoud Mehrabi was arrested on February 1, 2023, and was released on bail on March 24, 2023, but was re-arrested a few hours later when intelligence officers from Isfahan raided his father’s home in Mobarakeh, Isfahan.

Not much information has been released about Mr. Mehrabi’s case, but the Telegram channel of the Center for the Defense of Human Rights has stated that Mr. Mehrabi is accused of ‘corruption on earth’ by committing widespread dissemination of false information on Instagram, propaganda against the regime, inciting military and law enforcement forces to disobey orders, inciting people to war and killing, and insulting the founder and leader of the Islamic Republic.
